Captain America’s true age at the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame has been revealed. In addition, the year he went back to Peggy Carter has also been confirmed. This information has been talked about before, but it appears it was inaccurate, at least when compared with the official script from the epic movie. After Tony Stark made the ultimate sacrifice to get rid of Thanos and his army, Cap went back in time to return the Infinity Stones and live out the rest of his life the way he always wanted to.

The Avengers: Endgame script reveals Captain America traveled back to Washington D.C. in the year 1949 to be with Peggy Carter after he took back the Infinity Stones. When he appears with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson at the end of the movie, which takes place in 2023, he is actually 112-years old. This clears up some misinformation about Steve Rogers’ age in Endgame that has been floating around since the movie hit theaters. You can read a portion of the script below.

“A TEA CUP LIES SHATTERED on the hardwood. We hear Harry James. Move into the living room…past the record player… TO WHERE STEVE DANCES WITH A WOMAN. They rock back and forth barely moving. As they turn, we see… PEGGY CARTER, tears streaming down her face. He steps on her toe. She laughs. As they turn, we get a good look at… Steve Rogers, eyes shut, finally getting the life he deserves. THE END.”

Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter’s 1949 dance takes place two years after the second season of the Agent Carter television series, which featured Carter’s life after World War II. 1949 is also significant because it’s the year she stopped working with Strategic Scientific Reserve. Fans will know that the Strategic Scientific Reserve later turned into S.H.I.E.L.D. It’s pretty crazy that Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus were able to tie all of this together for Avengers: Endgame.

Avengers 4 tied up a lot of loose ends in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It also set up events for the future, which we have yet to see, other than Spider-Man: Far From Home. In the sequel, the world, along with Peter Parker, are mourning the loss of Tony Stark, which could be something that ends up playing out in a lot of the future MCU projects that take place after 2023.

As for Captain America, he was able to pass the torch to Sam Wilson, aka Falcon. We’re still waiting to see how this unfolds and are hoping The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Disney+ series will explore this portion of the story, though it will more than likely be told in a more in-depth way on the big screen. We’ll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, you can head over to Disney Studio Awards to read the entire Avengers: Endgame script.
