A new and unused Avengers: Endgame promotional image features Iron Man and Rescue. The Rescue suit was rumored for quite a while, but it was pretty much confirmed when Pepper Potts actress Gwyneth Paltrow accidentally revealed the suit on social media. Plus, some early Endgame action figures showed the Rescue suit, giving it away. It seems Marvel Studios was considering playing off of the Marvel Cinematic Universe fan excitement for a small amount of time, which is where this new image comes from.
Liz Georgoff was the legacy department coordinator for Infinity War and Endgame. She shared the Rescue and Iron Man image on social media, noting that she was actually the one in the armor, which was created by Legacy Effects. Georgoff says she is honored “to have been one of four women ever to have worn” the special suit. She also revealed that Christopher Swift was the one inside the Iron Man suit. Rescue and Iron Man are seen with their helmets touching in an emotional moment.
Though the image was never used for the Endgame promotional material, it probably would have been praised by fans. Marvel Studios did the best they could to keep everything about the movie under wraps, so it’s obvious why it wasn’t released, though it would have been good to come out later on. The Russo Brothers with screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely went out of their way to make sure the relationship between Pepper Potts and Tony Stark was at the heart of Endgame.
Taking Tony Stark out of the equation to tend to his family was exactly what MCU fans did not think the character was going to do. He did the best he could, but the idea of being able to bring back half of the universe and Peter Parker proved to be too tempting when he figured out the way to make the time heist work. In the end, it was the strong family element that made Endgame sting even more when Stark sacrificed his life to save the universe. In addition to his team and the world, Stark left a wife and young daughter behind, maximizing the emotional impact of his death.
Avengers: Endgame is getting closer to becoming the highest grossing movie of all time, but it might fall short when all the dust settles. James Cameron’s Avatar is still on top with a lead of a little less than $100 million left to go. Whatever the case may be, it’s the choices that Marvel Studios made that helped to get the movie to where it is in the public consciousness. While the Rescue and Iron Man image may have given too much away early on in the promotional campaign, now is the perfect time to bring it out and show the fans.
