Tom Cruise is apparently down to take Justin Bieber up on his UFC fight challenge. Last week, the popstar decided to randomly challenge Cruise to a fight on social media, going as far as to insinuate that the actor is scared if he doesn’t accept. The Top Gun star did not publicly respond, but UFC fighter Conor McGregor did and offered to not only host the event, but also called out Mark Wahlberg to fight too.
Justin Bieber soon backtracked and said he was only kidding, admitting, “I think he would probably whoop my ass,” when talking about Tom Cruise. Bieber’s initial tweet gathered over 40,000 comments with many agreeing with his estimate of how the fight would go down. Now, the story has received another twist. According to UFC boss Dana White, Cruise is into the fight idea and willing to do it. Obviously, we’re taking White for his word here, but he seems to be pretty sure the actor would jump into the octagon with Bieber. White had this to say.
“I’m not going to say any names, but I’m just going to tell you that I got a phone call from a couple of real guys who said that they really do want to do this fight and they believe that Tom Cruise would do the fight. And I told them, I’ll tell you this: If that’s true, and if everybody involved in this thing really wants to do it, we can talk.”
Crossover fights are nothing new and Dana White knows this all too well. With that being said, he’s ready to take on the challenge. “Lots of people will talk about fighting somebody in the UFC and things like that, whether it’s NFL players or celebrities or whatever. It happens a lot,” said White. If anyone could make it happen, it would be White, but is Tom Cruise really about to step into the octagon for real? Probably not.
Tom Cruise is one of the biggest stars on the planet and probably wasn’t even aware of said challenge until only recently, if at all. Cruise would more than likely have no problem taking down Justin Bieber during a fight, so Bieber might want to be careful with who he goes about challenging. When it comes down to it, he might want to hit up Conor McGregor for some advice.
Since Conor McGregor challenged Mark Wahlberg to a fight and even gently teased him for his own popstar past, the UFC fighter reportedly received threats by an unbeaten boxer Wahlberg manages and represents. Regis Prograis, a light welterweight puncher from New Orleans, is allegedly ready to put McGregor in his place, which could explain why McGregor has kept his mouth shut over the matter recently.
